Aluminum cans--One ton recycled saves the energy equivalent of 40 barrels of oil.
Plastic--One ton of recycled saves the energy equivalent of 16.3 barrels of oil.
Office paper--One ton recycled saves the energy equivalent of 9 barrels of oil.
Steel--One ton recycled saves the energy equivalent of 1.8 barrels of oil.
Newsprint--One ton recycled saves the energy equivalent of 1.7 barrels of oil.
Glass--One ton recycled saves the energy equivalent of 0.12 barrels of oil.
The more we recycle, the more oil supplies can be reserved.
U.S. Senator James Jeffords of Vermont points out this is the annual output of 15 power plants lost because these items are not recycled.
